Each of our programs follows the Belonging, Being and Becoming: The Early Years Learning Framework for Australia (EYLF). This is to say that our approach to learning is supportive, nurturing and thorough.
ABOUT THE PROGRAM
EARLY LEARNING
Our activities and routines are designed to teach children vital attributes such as independence, confidence, ability to work in groups and make friends, strengthening gross and fine motor skills, understanding concepts such as sharing and taking turns as well as literacy, numeracy, and general knowledge.
GETTING READY
Here our program starts to include more structured activities as well as place more focus on the specific self-help and academic skills which will be essential for children to tackle the challenges of a classroom environment.
STARTING SCHOOL
For the children who are starting school the following year will also include specific activities and experiences that they will encounter once they start school. This part of our School Readiness Program is called Transition to School.
THE FIVE KEY LEARNING OUTCOMES
The Framework conveys the highest expectations for all children’s learning from birth to five years and through the transitions to school. It communicates these expectations through the following five learning outcomes:
CHILDREN HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF IDENTITY
CHILDREN ARE CONNECTED WITH AND CONTRIBUTE TO THEIR WORLD
CHILDREN HAVE A STRONG SENSE OF WELLBEING
CHILDREN ARE CONFIDENT AND INVOLVED LEARNERS
CHILDREN ARE EFFECTIVE COMMUNICATORS

WITHIN EACH PROGRAM WE OFFER THE OPPORTUNITY FOR THE FOLLOWING:
PARENT COMMUNICATION
Here at Montessori Merrylands, we understand how emotional it is for parents to have to leave their children with new faces in particular during the first few weeks. This is why establishing open channels of communication with our parents is so important.
We will observe your child’s learning so that we can build on it and plan the next steps. We do this by listening, watching and talking to your child. We will keep in touch with you regularly to discuss your child’s progress.
We love and welcome every opportunity to speak with our parents face to face, however, we understand that this may not always be possible. As a result, we encourage parents to make an appointment with their child’s room leader to discuss their child’s progress or any concerns they may have. Further, we provide the following means of communication.
If an appointment is not suitable you may stay in touch via:
We encourage parents to call our centre at any time throughout the day.
We encourage parents to communicate with us via email if they choose to. Our email is info@montessorimerrylands.com.au
Please feel free to share and swap information with your child’s room teachers or the Director at any time. We value our parent input/suggestions into our curriculum and enjoy hearing about special events or weekend activities that may add a unique and different aspect to our daily activities.
Our centre has a communication book which acts as an important link between our parents and staff. We understand that you do not always have a lot of time on drop-off or collection, so these books allow messages to be shared between you and us. You can also leave any suggestions or voice any concerns.
Each room has its own Day Book. These books contain information about what the children did throughout the day and details about activities. It is important to write a comment in the Day Books as feedback for inclusion in your child’s ongoing program.
Staff develop and maintain an individual portfolio for each child in the Centre throughout the year. It contains unique information about your child’s activities and development through photos, samples of artworks, pictures, staff observations and developmental checklists, and provides you with an overall picture of your child’s time in care with us. You are welcome to view this at any time, and it will be our gift to you at the end of each year.
MEALS
PROVIDED
We provide breakfast, morning tea, hot lunch, dessert, afternoon tea and an evening snack for your child. We also provide all cow’s milk and water throughout the day. We happily cater for any allergies or special dietary requirements.
There is a daily menu displayed on the wall of each room, and these menus are rotated weekly. We happily welcome any feedback and suggestions from families.
All meals are prepared and cooked on the premises. Our centre has an experienced cook who holds qualifications in nutrition, menu planning and safe food handling.
Our menus are based on the Dietary Guidelines for Children & Adolescents in Australia and are based on the recommended food groups and serving sizes as outlined in the Nutrition Checklist for Menu Planning.
